Photo's?...Whaddayamean?

I'm no Photographer but I make photo's for reference when I'm painting. So that I can finish a portrait of a model that visited my studio for a day, after she has left for home.
I don't have fancy backdrops in my studio, that would allow me to make the photo's a photographer would and actually I wouldn't want to.
I used to not even pay much attention to detail as a photographer should. Because it would change when I start the painting anyway.
My interest in photography used to be focused on getting reasonably lit pictures that more or less showed the features I wanted the painting to show.
However, quality has improved a lot over the years as did my cameras. Just by using the camera, trying things with it, and upgrading it when that was possible or necessary.
I bought a studio flash set too, just to be able to control lighting better. And because I've worked together closely with an actual good photographer I picked up a lot of insight.
Was photography only a means to reach a (painted) goal before, it has sparked an interest in me as a separate medium.
Mainly because I thought I missed too many beautiful moments that I could never paint, because there's just not enough time in the world.
And that change of perspective is starting to show. I actually have some photo's hanging on my wall, that I made myself.
While I never bothered, even to print them, before.
I still have to add backgrounds or remove stuff that is image clutter in the background but that makes it more interesting for me than
just changing a pre-fab backdrop from a rail. And it can actually add to the photograph as it's always unique.
Click on Photo Gallery to see a couple of pictures I made with camera and not with digital paint.
I can't post them all I'm afraid. even though I'd like to post many more.
If you'd like to be a model for a photographing Illustrator (there's most likely a painting in it for you, as well as a whole bunch of photo's) you can mail me a recent and clear picture of yourself.
Preferably from head to toe.
